He's better than all of Chelsea's strikers and could fire Everton into Champions League... so why doesn't Jose want lukaku

#askaroundnow

He is the muscle-bound striker who allies pace and potency to his power, a player barely out of his teens with a proven Premier League pedigree.
He could well fire Everton to the Champions League, with the Toffees facing Arsenal on Sunday.
He has been likened to his idol, Didier Drogba - the man the Blues never replaced - and the Chelsea legend himself concedes the youngster is better than he was at such a tender age.

Surely Romelu Lukaku must be the answer to Chelsea's prayers?
For even were he not already contracted to the Stamford Bridge club, you'd wager they would be leading the race for his signature.
Except, no. Lukaku – currently enjoying a season-long loan at Everton – is surplus to requirements in west London.
Jose Mourinho has deemed the Belgian not good enough to lead – or even form a part of – his Chelsea revival next season.
The Portuguese boss, with his side set for a trophyless end to their campaign, is ready to ditch £50million flop Fernando Torres, as well as Samuel Eto'o, Demba Ba and, bafflingly, Lukaku, the starlet they paid Anderlecht £10m for in 2011.

In the wake of Wednesday night's 3-1 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-final – during which midfielder Andre Schurrle was deployed as a lone forward - Mourinho fumed: 'I’m not happy with my strikers’ performances so I had to try things.
'And with Andre [Schurrle] at least I know we have one more player to have the ball, one more player to associate with the other players, even though he’s not a striker.
'But football is not just about that. It’s also about scoring goals, getting behind, and that is for strikers. Real strikers. And I had to try.'
Torres has scored a paltry 19 league goals since his British record transfer more than three years ago. Eto'o has eight, Ba a feeble five.

Lukaku, meanwhile, has plundered 29 top-flight strikes during the course of loan stays with West Brom and now Everton; at 20 years of age that is some achievement.
Mourinho, however, is choosing to ignore the numbers, the only digits Chelsea are concerned with is the frontman's asking price.
A fee of £20m has been quoted and discussions have opened with Everton and Spurs.
Chelsea, it seems, are happy for him to remain in England, free to inflict upon them the hurt he has on so many others during the past two seasons.
They have taken such a risky judgement previously, do not forget. For Daniel Sturridge was offloaded to Liverpool for £12m last January.

Fast forward 15 months – and 30 league goals later – and Sturridge is on the verge of a Premier League winner's medal, his former employers having been unable to keep pace with the relentless scoring exploits of he and Luis Suarez.
Across Merseyside, at Goodison Park, 13-goal Lukaku, with four in his last six matches, is leading the charge on a Champions League position; victory over fourth-placed Arsenal on Sunday would make the Toffees favourites to land the prize.
Chelsea and Mourinho, meanwhile, look set for a sorry conclusion to a season which had promised so much.
If only they had a striker who was in form and scoring goals.
