Michael Essien's representatives are in talks with AC Milan, Sky Sports understands.
The 31-year-old spent last season on loan at Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho, featuring 21 times in La Liga.
However, since Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge - his chances with Chelsea have been limited this term and he has made just two league starts.
Now new Milan coach Clarence Seedorf is looking to add him to his squad, with one eye also on the Champions League.
Essien was not included in Chelsea's Champions League squad this season so he is not cup tied and he could potentially play for Milan against Atletico Madrid next month.
Galatasary have also expressed an interest in signing Essien.
