In a recent interview with Sun News, actress Chika Ike was asked if she thought her Abu Dhabi trip was extravagant, here’s her reply

“Whose money? Is it not the money I worked hard for? Did anybody give me? I have worked hard and I deserved every bit of the luxury I enjoyed over there and I can proudly say that. I will do it over and over again because I deserve it.

She also stayed in one of the world’s most expensive palace – the Emirates Palace Hotel. You only live once, anything you can afford.

Nigeria to buy surveillance aircraft to monitor Boko Haram

Nigeria plans to buy at least three surveillance aircraft to check cross-border activities of Boko Haram fighters and other crimes.
"In my recent visit to the Czech Republic, we inspected the surveillance aeroplane facility in Prague and proposals to the relevant agencies of government for the procurement of at least three of such surveillance aeroplanes," Interior Minister Abba Moro told reporters in Abuja Sunday.
"When we get the nod we will be able to provide them," he added.
Moro did not mention the cost of the aircraft and whether such purchase is listed in the country's 2014 budget.
"The combination of plazas [border facilities to screen people coming into the country], border patrol vehicles and the surveillance technology will reduce incidents of unwarranted entry into the country of persons and goods," said the minister.

A woman has died after falling from a shopping centre roof days after a man accused of raping her was acquitted by a jury.

Police negotiators were trying to talk to her when she apparently jumped.
Ambulance staff were also on stand-by.
The 41-year-old woman fell from the car park roof at the Wheatsheaf shopping centre in Rochdale.
She was reportedly taken to Salford Royal hospital in a life-threatening condition but later died.
Sky's Martin Brunt said: "She has twice given evidence as an alleged victim of rape.

Another policeman caught on video demanding dollars as bribe

Like a recurring decimal, another policeman has been caught on video demanding American dollars after apprehending a Nigerian-American and two other Nigerians for alleged traffic offence(s).

A three-minute, 45-second footage secretly filmed by one of the passengers detailing the encounter of the trio, in the hands of the policeman, has become a sensation on YouTube and other social networking sites.

One of the three, who later spoke in Yoruba, was heard explaining to the policeman that one of them was actually celebrating his birthday and that they were hurrying to catch up with a friend. The incident, according to the description given on YouTube, was said to have happened in the Egbeda area of Lagos.

WAEC introduces 39 new subjects

The West African Examinations Council has announced the introduction of 39 new subjects in its examinations.

 The Council’s Acting Head, Test Development Division, Mrs. Olayinka Ajibade, who announced this, said the new subjects would commence in this year’s May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

Ajibade said this while delivering a paper titled “The New Senior Secondary Education Curriculum in Nigeria: Implications for Assessment” at the council’s monthly seminar in Lagos on Friday.

The fresh initiative, she said, was in accordance with the Nigerian Education Research and Development Council’s new secondary school curriculum.

A 20 year old Nigerian man, Isaac Anya Ojiabo Jr has reportedly killed his 51 year old mother Joy Ojiabo in Maryland, USA. Nigeria's leading Salafist scholar and prominent anti-Boko Haram preacher Sheikh Mohamed Awwal Adam Albani was assassinated Saturday night while returning from one of his routine lectures.

"Sheikh Albani was killed alongside one of his wives in Gaskiya area of Zaria, Kaduna," Ayoku Kayode, a follower of the Salafist scholar, told Anadolu Agency.
"His wife died on the spot while the sheikh made it to Saint Luke Hospital in the metropolis where he was confirmed dead," he added.
"The death of sheikh is a great loss to the Salafist movement across Nigeria and beyond."
Kaduna police spokesman Aminu Lawan told AA there is no official information yet of the scholar's death.

What was growing up like?

Growing up was fine and lovely. I did my primary school in Lagos and my secondary school in Jos. I grew up in Jos, with my mum and siblings.

You won the award for the Most Promising Actor at the GIAMA last year, how did you feel?

The movie, On Bended Knees, produced by Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha and Emem Isong, won me that award. I wasn’t expecting it. When I got the script, I was hell-bent on doing something extraordinary. I gave it my all, and if an award came out from it, I’m proud of it. That was my first international award.
