The singer's career moves from the front pages to academia where gender equality students will analyse her lyrics and videos
Fans may think they know already everything about her, but now an American university is offering a course analysing Beyonce.
Students at Rutgers University in New Jersey can study 'Politicising Beyonce' in its Department of Women's and Gender Studies.Kevin Allred, a doctoral student who is teaching the class, told the university's online news site that he is using the star's career as a way to explore American race, gender and sexual politics.
The classes will analyse Beyonce's videos and lyrics along with readings of work by black feminists.
Mr Allred said he hopes to help students think more critically about media consumption.
Earlier this month Beyonce, who is married to rapper Jay-Z, wrote an open essay for the Shriver Report website on the issue of gender equality.
"We need to stop buying into the myth about gender equality," she said. "We have a lot of work to do, but we can get there if we work together."
Rutgers also has a class examining the theology of Bruce Springsteen's lyrics.
Beyonce, 32, and Jay-Z were named the most powerful people in the music industry by Billboard earlier this week.
The pair gave a raunchy performance of Drunk in Love at the Grammys on Sunday night.
